Government Unilaterally Allows Zimbabwean UHT Milk to flow freely into Zambia

This week could be dubbed as the Milk week. While the ZNFU-DAZ team was still briefing the ZNFU secretariat on the outcome of the Kenya trip, the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development had instructed the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry to lift the ban on importation of UHT milk from Zimbabwe in a letter dated 15th November 2010. The Union moved swiftly on the matter and MLFD had verbally agreed to withdraw the letter and status quo to be maintained.

ZNFU/ZESCO Committee Meeting

The collaboration between ZNFU and ZESCO has continued through sharing of information at meetings which are held periodically. At a recent meeting held on 4th November 2010, Zesco provided the following updates;

ZNFU-DAZ and GRZ Milk Verification back from Kenya

Last week, a high level team comprising of technocrats from the ZNFU, Dairy Association of Zambia, Government (Ministries of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Health, Livestock and Fisheries Development, Zambia Revenue Authority, Zambia Bureau of Standards) and COMESA, undertook a verification mission to Kenya so as to ascertain whether it was time for the Kenya milk to start flowing into the country again. Water Resources Management Bill

The ZNFU Water Committee held a meeting with officials from the Ministry Energy & Water Development, Water Resources Action Programme (WRAP) on Tuesday 2nd November 2010 to get insight of the new Water Resources Management Bill 2010 which is before Parliament.  Consultations with the ZNFU on this bill were last held about four years ago when a Water Committee was set up.
