Farmers in Mkushi have opposed the introduction of loading fees by the local municipality in the district. This follows the council’s decision to enforce various fees and charges approved by the local authority on 25th September 2009, in accordance with the Local Government ACT 281 of the Laws of Zambia. The introduced fees include loading fees, which range between K 15, 000 to K 40, 000 for loads between 3 tons to above 26 tons respectively. Also introduced are Mineral levy at K 20, 000 per ton, and premises inspection fees. Farmers feel the move is retrogressive.
