Zambia needed to turn away from the talk about POTENTIAL and make radical steps that would change the potential into actual deliverables, His Excellency Ambassador Mr. Gilles Hervio, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Zambia said this at the just ended ZNFU 107th Annual Congress in Lusaka.
He said Zambians; policy makers, advisers and politicians knew that among other things, that there was a huge agricultural and livestock potential in Zambia , that there was a need to limit the role of government, leaving space to the private sector, that there was a need to diversify away from maize, maize, and to balance the sector with increased emphasis on livestock, that the livestock sector despite its importance received less budget and less attention than the crop sector, and that the cost of doing business, trade and transaction costs were far too high in Zambia, but would not do the country any good if no radical steps were taken to address these matters.
He said despite clear indications as to what needed to be done nothing radical had been done to effect the needed change.
