Congress unanimously re-elected Mr. Jervis Zimba as ZNFU president for the fifth and last term of office. Mr. Zimba thanked the farmers for the confidence they have had in him as president and urged farmers to remain united and focused and they strive to make agriculture a truly profitable business venture. He called on farmers to be strategic when choosing the type of agriculture activity to undertake.
Others re-elected were Mr. Graham Rae as chairman grains, Mr. Andrew Moffat as Area Director Large Scale and Keith Asherwood as Trustee.
Mr. Mike Beckett excused himself from being actively involved in ZNFU board activities, where he has served as Trustee for the last nine years. Mr. Alfred Boamah also asked to step down as director on medical grounds.
Dr Evelyn Nguleka area director Small Scale and Mr. Dave Gordon First vice president were not due for elections.
And the Union awarded several farmers and commodity committee for exemplary performance during the year. The recipients of the awards included;
1. The Best National Commodity Committee Award, which went to Oil seeds Commodity Committee.
2. The Best Commodity Association Award Dairy Association of Zambia (DAZ).
3. The Best District Farmers’ Association, was received by Nakonde District Farmers’ Association
4. The Most Improved Emergent Farmer Award went to Mr. David Mulemwa.
5. The Pioneer FISP Best Farmer Award was given to Mr. Elisha Lewanika of Masaiti District who achieved a 9 MT/Ha of maize using Pioneer hybrid seed.
6. The 2012 ZNFU Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award was awarded to a prominent member of the farming community for his selfless commitment and dedication to the development of the small- scale livestock farmers in Zambia, Mr. Mike Beckett.
7. The Guest of Honour the Vice President of the Government of the Republic of Zambia Dr. Guy Scott (MP) also received a gift of two ewes for taking time from his busy Schedule to celebrate the 107th Congress with farmers
8. ZNFU also made a Charity Donation of baby formula to the House of Moses, a Charity which looks after young orphans.
