Following increased security concerns among farms and other key agricultural investments, ZNFU – ZP Farm Security Committee last week held meetings and visited selected farms to listen to farm security problems affecting the farming community in Mkushi and Kabwe. While visiting farms, the farm security team learned about loss of grain and livestock,
in some instances involving hired security. In view of increased thefts and considering the huge investments by Agri-Options, the Deputy Commissioner offered six (06) Paramilitary officers to provide security to the company and other parts of the farm block. A similar gesture was offered to CMR farm that has been experiencing untold poaching problems. Farmers were urged to work closely with the Police in their fight against crime and were further encouraged to build stables in order to make use of mounted patrols. The Farm Security entourage comprised among others, the Zambia Police Service Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Emmanuel Chileshe; the ZNFU President, Mr. Jervis Zimba; The Coordinator of mounted patrols, Mr. Hamooya; The ZNFU Farm Security Committee Mr. Charles Coxe and the ZNFU Senior Manager-Emergent/large Scale Operations, Mr. Jeremiah Kasalo.
