Cost for Feed Continues Going down

The cost of feed has continued going down giving hope to the Poultry industry for quick recovery. The average Lusaka feed prices are now K128, 000 per 50kg starter pellets and crumbles, K126, 000 per 50kg grower pellets and K122, 000 per 50kg finisher pellets. Layers mash is now K98, 000 per 50kg bag

The industry may grow by 15% this year if the feed prices stabilizes though may suffer further challenges with the increase in energy costs.

Monze Poultry Association held a very successful poultry day at Monze Play Park. The poultry day was attended by all district government Heads and was graced by the Monze District Commissioner.

In another development, Poultry Farmers have continued to suffer from harassment by middlemen believed to be political cadres at Soweto Market. This issue has become serious and is no longer economical but political. PAZ will confer soon with the market authorities to find the way forward.

With the abolishment of crop levies, councils have now turned to poultry as the source of their much needed revenue by arbitrary hiking bird levies without due regard to the prevailing costs of production and the gross earnings of the sector. If this goes unchecked poultry production in the district councils hiking levies will drastically be affected. This should not discourage farmers as the situation is being addressed
