The Second African Organic Conference to be held in Zambia

Zambia has been nominated to host the second Africa Organic Conference in 2012. The hosting of the conference will attract thousands of organic producers, marketers, researchers and other interest groups to Zambia.  The first African Organic conference took place in Kampala Uganda in May 2009.

In another development the Southern Africa countries including Zambia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia have unveiled an initiative to promote regional trade in organic products in the SADC region by forming a regional body to be called Southern Africa Participatory Guarantee Network (SAPNET). SAPNET will explore affordable ways of ensuring organic certification for small scale producers in the region as a function of promoting marketability of the organic products within the region. The initiative is being anchored by Organic Producers and Processors Association of Zambia (OPPAZ) and the national organic movements of Zimbabwe and Namibia and the Bryanston Natural and Organic Market of South Africa.
