Agro-Chemical dealers respond to the critical shortage of Herbicides in Southern.

Agro- Chemical shops and Dealers in Southern Province have responded by increasing the supply of the herbicides in the Province. The Conservation Farming Unit of the Zambia National Farmers’ Union has also intensified the on-spot field training and radio programmes on the use of the herbicides
 

1,800 Choma-Kalomo Farmers to Plant Cassava

Distribution of the elite cassava varieties to 1,800 farmers in Choma and Kalomo Districts have commenced. The exercise is meant to supplement maize as an alternative source of carbohydrate. A total of 1,800 x 100 bundles will be distributed to the 1,800 beneficiaries before 25th December 2009.

 

 

Lack of market for Cassava hits Luapula

Farmers in Luapula are currently facing serious problems in accessing market for cassava. The milling company which has been the main buyer for cassava has no funds to purchase cassava from the farmers’ as it has lost the market to supply cassava meal to the refugee camps which were the main buyers for the meal. Most of the refugee camps are being closed and most refugees have been repatriated to their countries

 

Fish Ban

Following the fish ban by government which was effective 1st December 2009, the Fisheries department has approached the ZNFU Regional office to facilitate information dissemination through the Information Centres about the fish ban.  The Fisheries Department has since confisticated the product from a number of fish mongers who have continued with the illegal fishing.

 

POULTRY NEWS

The prices of poultry feeds have continued to go down. The latest prices released by the Millers are averaging K134, 000 per 50Kg bag starter, K132, 000 per 50 Kg bag Grower, K128, 000 per 50Kg finisher while layers mash is K96, 000 per 50Kg bag.
