Zambian Farmer TV Programme Rolls To Life

ZNFU’s Zambian Farmer Television Programme has started showing on ZNBC TV. The programme which started rolling last week Thursday, will be a permanent feature on the National Broadcaster every week (Thursdays) and will be showcasing developments and thought provoking interviews in the agricultural sector.  An initial 13 series have been lined up. The programme will give advertisers the opportunity to partner and relate to the new agro TV series through advertisement of their products and services. Livestock Sector Tops Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture Agenda

Appearing before the Committee on Agriculture at Parliament on 17th January, 2013, the Union laid out the challenges affecting the livestock sector and made some recommendations for action. Too Wet For Comfort;21 Days of Continuous Rains Worry Farmers

Farmers in Mazabuka, Monze and Namwala are raking their brains over the possible loss of crop following 21 days of continuous rainfall. The farmers are afraid that the rains may destroy their crops and leach the soils.  In Mazabuka areas affected include Nega-Nega, Nansenga and Nameembo. The most affected are Soyabeans fields.  In Monze, Chona area is the most affected. Two farmers under the Lima Credit Scheme in Chona have had their crops completely Swept away leaving most feeder roads damaged and impassable. 
 

FRA Owing Lufwanyama Farmers

Over 50 farmers in Lufwanyama and surrounding areas have not been paid by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA). This was learnt when the affected farmers in the area wanted to match to the DCs office to register their displeasure towards the Agency. The farmers claimed that they have failed to grow any crop this season because they could not raise money to procure inputs. They have since appealed to government to consider them for relief food this year.
 

Mumbwa Farmers Laud ZNFU For Agro-Forestry Program

Farmers in Mumbwa have lauded the ZNFU for the implementation of the Agro-forestry Program. Farmers who came from various Information Centers (ICs) visited the ZNFU District Offices this week requesting for possible inclusion on the program this calendar year said the program could not have come at a better time. The DFA through the Union managed to train 22 best practicing farmers who have since started planting different tree species on their farms. This pilot program has raised a lot of hope among the farming communities as they try to help fight the weather trends and reverse the effects of global warming.
