Farmers under FISP in Luapula are worried with the manner in which inputs are being distributed in batches and trickles. Farmers are musing on how they could use the fertilizer when the crop has grown beyond the right age of fertilizer application.
Some agro outlets in have taken advantage of the situation and are selling fertilizers at between KR 220 and KR 250 per 50kg bag for both urea and D Compound. Farmers talked to say they do not have a choice but to deep into their pockets and buy the commodity at exorbitant prices so as to salvage whatever crop they can.
In another development, heavy rains have washed away a bridge in Nchelenge causing serious challenges to the road network. Transporters under the FRA and FISP contracts have also been affected. Farmers and the community are appealing to the Government through the local councils to come to their Aid.
