Zambia Records a Trade Surplus in January

Zambia recorded a trade surplus valued at about K1, 484.3 billion in January 2011. According to the Central Statistical Office, this is the highest value since January 2010. February Inflation Remains Constant

The Central Statistical office announced that the February inflation rate has remained stable at 9.0%. Between January and February, the annual inflation rate for food, beverages and tobacco reduced from 5.2% to 4.5%. Food products accounted for 2.2 percentage points of the total annual inflation this month while non-food products accounted for a total of 6.8 percentage points.

The Oilseeds Commodity Committee held a meeting on 22nd February 2011 and this was immediately followed by a Soya beans Stakeholders Meeting. The Oilseeds Committee reviewed the 2010/2011 Soya beans estimates of the area planted and the effects of poor seed germination/re-planting in some cases.
