ZNFU and the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Meet

The Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU) President and the Executive Director, last Friday 11th March 2011 at 15:00 hours met the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives at his office at Mulungushi House.  The meeting follows the directive by the Emergency Grains Industry Stakeholders’ meeting which was held on Monday 7th March 2011 to meet the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives to make known to the Government the industry position and reaction on the decision to subsidize maize supplied to Millers by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) from US$200 to US$160.

Maize Stakeholders Convene at the ZNFU

Stakeholders in the maize industry, namely, Farmers, Millers, Traders and the FRA held a meeting at the ZNFU to discuss the implications of the FRA reducing maize prices to millers to US $160 per tonne. The meeting brought out numerous concerns which demonstrated that the announced intervention would have destabilizing effects on all players in the maize value chain and that it was unlikely to achieve the intended objective. ZNFU Calls for an Urgent Grains Stakeholders Meeting

Zambia Bureau of Standards – Pre-Shipment Inspection

The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) was invited to the Agribusiness Chambers Meeting which was held today at ZNFU headquarters to clarify their plans to introduce pre-shipment inspection for imports. ZNFU and Farm Security Committee to Meet The Ministers of Livestock and Home Affairs

A farm security meeting between ZNFU and the Ministers of Livestock and Home Affairs has been planned for 10th March 2011 at the Ministry of Home Affairs at 10:00 hours. The meeting is meant to discuss the numerous farm security concerns which include the escalating stock and game thefts, land encroachments and other farm security related issues.
