KIFCO Offers a 10% Discount on Empty Grain Bags

Kabwe Industrial fabrics Corporation (KIFCO) has agreed to offer a 10% price discount on empty grain bags and all other packaging materials to bonafide ZNFU members. KIFCO will also be able to deliver group orders to central locations and DFA’s at minimal costs. DFAs planning to make bulk orders need to make their procurement plans known to KIFCO in advance so as to allow the company arrange the production and transportation modalities.

The Economic Costs of Jatropha as a Fuel Crop

The last two decades have seen increased and sustained interest in the development of bio-fuels as a viable substitute for fossil fuels to power engines, especially for motor vehicles and aircraft. Many technologically advanced countries with large land areas have put in place a policy shift towards putting increasing acreage to growing fuel crops, which include corn, soya beans, sugar cane and jathropa. Government Announces Preliminary 2010/11 Crop Forecast Results

The Minister of agriculture and Cooperatives has released the 2010/11 preliminary Crop Forecast Results indicating a maize production increase of up to 25%. Government projects an increase of between 280,000-700,000MT of maize over and above last year’s 2.8 million MT of maize. The projected increase has been attributed to good climatic conditions, and the increase in FISP beneficiaries. This is in spite of some areas experiencing prolonged dry spell during February.

 

FAO Projects an Increase in Wheat Production

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is forecasting a 3.4% rise in the global wheat production in 2011. The March 2011 edition of the Crop Prospects and Food Situation report stated that the projected wheat forecast for 2011 stands at 676 million tonnes. This is however below the bumper harvests of 2009 and 2011.
