Fuel Pump Prices Reduced With ‘Immediate Effect’ From Midnight

The Government of the Republic of Zambia has with immediate effect scraped off a levy used to fund fuel strategic reserves. The Energy Minister Mr Christopher Yaluma announced this at the press briefing on Friday. He also indicated that the price of petrol would drop to K 8,155 per litre from K 8,647 a litre while that for diesel would be reduced to K7,566 per litre with effect from midnight.

Recently Experienced Rains not Sowing Rains

The rains experienced over the past few days have raised questions as to whether the rain season this year will start earlier than anticipated. The Meteorological department has attributed these rains to an incursion of moist and unstable air from Congo DR which started on 29th September, 2011 and resulted into widespread rainfall by Tuesday this week. The department has however advised the farming community not to mistake these rains for early rains as the rainfall activities were expected to reduce significantly by Thursday, 6th October 2011.

ZFEA-NUPAAW Negotiations Progress

Negotiations between the Zambia Farm Employers Association (ZFEA) and the National Union for Plantation, Agricultural and Allied Workers (NUPAAW) on a number of the provisions of the current Collective Agreement has reached an advanced stage with the parties involved in the negotiations remaining with only a few items on the agenda .The negotiations are expected to be concluded in the next two weeks and the New Collective Agreement should be ready for signing by both parties before the end of this month.

 

Inflation Rises to 8.8%

Zambia’s annual inflation rate has spiraled up to 8.8 percent in September from 8.3 percent in August, the Central Statistical Office (CSO) said on Thursday.
Inflation edged up in September after easing in August as food prices increased slightly. The Central Bank has projected an end year inflation target of 8.0 percent
